Message From Information and Communications Technology Program Leader

Dr. Aileen HOU

Dear ICT graduates,

I would like to take this moment to congratulate you for completing your studies, and thus, earning your degrees of Bachelor in Information and Communications Technology. You should be proud of your accomplishments.

The past year has been a tough but amazing academic year. The pandemic of COVID-19 in 2020 has largely changed the daily life of people in the world. Together we experienced a lot of new ways to teach, to learn and to live. For us, learning-from-home were adopted in a long period of time to avoid spreading and infection of the virus. We both tried to keep the teaching and learning on the right track very hard. I really appreciate your adaptability to the new normal as well as the self-discipline to ensure the up-to-standard learning. I would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation under such a special circumstance.

“There is nothing permanent except change” – this is what the virus had taught us. As an ICT person, we should recognize that the virus has indeed created extraordinary opportunities to the IT industry. It is observed that e-Commerce becomes essential in our daily lives and digital transformation is nearby changing how we study, work and live. Therefore, I would like to encourage you to embrace any upcoming changes that will take place after your graduation by life-long learning, and by keeping an open, optimistic, positive and responsive mind.

Finally, to your future, I wish you can find what you love for your career as well as for your lovers. Through your study in THEi, we have taught your knowledge and skills to identify and solve ICT problems for your course works and projects. In your future, you need to not only solve the real-world problems with your knowledge and skill, but more importantly to get fun out of it. It is because the only way to do great work is to love what you do. It is a luxury to have a job that you really love, but I do wish you can find such a job someday.

I look forward to seeing you again somewhere in the world doing what you enjoy. At the same time, please remember to come back to THEi from time to time to update us with what you see, what you feel and what you think. Let us keep in touch.
