Dear graduates,
Once again it’s the time of the year to celebrate your dedication and hard work over the past years and we congratulate everyone for your achievements! You are the first cohort to graduate under the new Department of Design and Architecture and the Graduation Show Organising Committee has appropriately come up with the theme ‘Synergy’, highlighting our unwavering emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and community co-creation.
In our continual exploration of design training, I still like to make reference to the Bauhaus school that was set up just over a hundred years ago. The model was one that every student and faculty was to participate in an intense period of creative life where boundaries among disciplines and between arts and crafts were dissolved. I think it is still a very relevant VPET training model for THEi’s design school we hope to continue to strengthen our brand together with everyone one of you joining our growing community of graduates.
Finally, this year’s Landscape Architecture Show also has a sub-theme of ‘Alchemy’, which vividly describes the magic creation and transformation of materials in every design process. If we think the same of our human bodies and intellect, education is in fact alchemy, turning ideas into gold. With this final thought, I wish the best to everyone of you and look forward to your leading prosperous and productive lives ahead.
