Climate change has become a serious issue in the world. The development of green buildings (GB) is important in slowing climate change. However, the development of GB in Hong Kong is not ideal. Besides, the development and adoption of Artificial Intelligence is becoming common. This study aims to investigate the barriers to develop GB in Hong Kong while investigating whether AI is a new barrier to GB development by conducting a case study and interview. The results found that the higher cost of green building technologies, lack of government incentives, and limited talent in AI are the current barriers in Hong Kong. Among these three barriers, the higher cost of green building technologies and limited talent in AI are the new barriers in Hong Kong when adopting AI in developing GB. This research adds to the literature on the barriers to develop GB in Hong Kong and helps people to have a better understanding of the current problems in developing GB. In addition, the findings can serve as a direction for other researchers to perform new research. Recommendations have been given to ease or overcome the barriers.
