Embracing the Wave
活漁文化 水情連結

The “Chuen Kee Shipyard,” which has stood by the sea in Aberdeen for nearly forty years, is considered one of the few remaining shipyards. Not only are they willing to provide affordable repairs for sampans, but their professional skills have earned high praise from many boat owners. Due to the shipyard’s location completely blocking the passage from Sham Wan to Ocean Court, there had been a proposal in the past at the Southern District Council to construct a pedestrian walkway connecting the two areas. As a result, the shipyard may need to relocate. The owner of the shipyard, Mr. Ng, stated that relocation would cause the shipyard to be closed down. However, in reality, preserving the shipyard and constructing a new public passageway do not conflict. By separating the private and public walkways, the shipyard can be preserved, and the public can witness its operations by passing through the walkway and it may serve as an educational purpose. In meanwhile, the public wooden walkway can be designed with history display area, sitting pavilion and fishing workshop etc. to enhance the seashore experience.
