This “Decennium” year marks the tenth anniversary of the Graduation Exhibition for both Departments—a moment to reflect on a decade of progress in applied education. It also aligns with THEi’s aspirations to evolve into one of Hong Kong’s Universities of Applied Sciences (UASs), a goal grounded in academic excellence and industry relevance.

The projects featured in this exhibition reflect the ingenuity, professionalism, and applied skill sets that define THEi’s approach to education. These qualities reinforce our institutional readiness for the next phase of development. As we work towards this transformation, we continue to enhance our degree programmes, strengthen industry collaboration, and expand our research initiatives—ensuring our graduates are well-equipped to contribute meaningfully in dynamic and evolving professional landscapes.

Welcome to the 2025 Graduation Exhibition of THEi, a showcase of originality and practical knowledge from the Department of Design and Architecture and the Department of Digital Innovation and Technology.

This year’s exhibition offers a window into the minds of our graduating students, shaped not only by academic learning but also by an understanding of industry needs. Each discipline represented here speaks its own creative and technological language, and together they form new voices ready to contribute to our society.

From campaigns in Digital Advertising that rethink how we connect, to Fashion Design collections that explore sustainability and cultural narrative, our students have embraced human connection and originality. In Product Design, ideas are not just imagined, they are prototyped, tested, and refined with precision. Landscape Architecture students offer visions that balance urban life and ecological care, while those in Surveying ground these dreams in real-world feasibility.

In the Department of Digital Innovation and Technology, creativity meets computation. Multimedia Technology and Innovation projects push the boundaries of interactivity, while Information and Communication Technology students provide solutions that support the infrastructures of tomorrow. Our Cinematic Arts and Technology graduates bring stories to life with technical command and emotional resonance, blending elements of film, art, and digital storytelling.

This is also a milestone year, marking the tenth Graduation Exhibition. It is a moment to honour the past and anticipate the future. As THEi advances toward becoming one of Hong Kong’s Universities of Applied Sciences (UASs), we reaffirm our commitment to applied learning, industry collaboration, and academic excellence. This evolution is reflected in the calibre and relevance of the work exhibited here today.

Welcome to THEi's 10^th Graduation Exhibition of the Department of Design and Architecture, and the Department of Digital Innovation and Technology with the theme “Decennium”.  Eight bachelor’s degree programmes of these two departments will participate in the exhibition.

The Graduation Exhibition highlights not only the nurturing environment of THEi, enabling the studies of the students in their respective programmes, but also celebrates the incredible creativity and innovation that our graduates have devoted into their project.  This exhibition is a testament to the unique insights, innovative ideas, practical applications of knowledge to solve real life industry problems.

The Graduation Exhibition can only be made possible by the countless hours of guidance and aspiration that the students have received from their teachers.  It is through the teachers’ patience, unwavering support, dedicated counselling that have propelled the students to explore their potential and push their limits.  The teachers have taught the students to think critically, act innovatively and apply their knowledge skilfully in overcoming the challenges of their projects.

Creativity is not merely a talent; it is an entrepreneur mindset which can be shaped by learning from the exemplary attributes of their teachers.  It is about approaching problems from innovative perspectives, embracing failure as a stepping stone to success, and daring to think outside the old framework.  Our students have demonstrated this mindset, exploring new frontiers in their projects.

Let us appreciate the collaborative spirit that has fuelled this exhibition. Many of the projects are the result of teamwork, where students have learned to share ideas, support one another, and bring their collective vision to fruition.  This collaboration not only enhances creativity but also prepares the graduates for the real world, where professionals work together to make things happen for improving people’s livelihood.

In closing, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our graduates for reaching this significant milestone.  I also wish to express my gratitude to our academic staff, industry partners, and supporters who have played a pivotal role in guiding and inspiring our students throughout their academic journey.  I am sure that the knowledge and skills our graduates learnt will carry them through the realisation of their dreams and career aspirations in future.

Dear DDA’s Graduating Class of 2025,

It is with great pride that congratulate you all who are graduating this year. This year’s Graduate Show marks the 10th anniversary of THEi’s quest to produce creative talents. It serves as a great milestone for our Department of Design and Architecture and its predecessor the Faculty of Design and Environment. Our 10th Grad Show is fittingly themed “Decennium”, which means a decade. It invites us to review our achievements over the past, position ourselves amidst rapid social changes, and reflect upon our future directions.

The changes over ten years of an individual’s life can be quite magical. For many of you, who has not so long ago stepped into the third decennium of your lives, you may recall how ten years ago you were starting to become a teenager; and ten years before that, you were barely beginning to make sense of the many wonders of our world. Looking ahead, how do you envision yourself ten year, twenty years, and thirty years from now?

We invite all of you to take active roles in our series of celebratory events and on our journey into our second decade of learning, teaching, research, and how we could play crucial roles as part of THEi’s larger plans to become a University of Applied Science. We invite you to imagine, together with everyone of us here, how you would like DDA and THEi to become in ten years of time. We would love to see everyone back for our 20th, 30th, 40th Grad Shows, and many more that come after. We would love to see you come back and speak to future graduands and students not only as somebody who has achieved great success in life, but somebody who remains delightfully creative and curious.

Congratulations to this year's graduates of the Department of Digital Innovation and Technology! It is the 10th Graduation Exhibition of THEi, and I am immensely proud of your achievements. Particularly, I am excited to see the great creative works from the students of our new programme this year, Cinematic Arts and Technology, which include captivating movies and animations.

As I can see in these Final Year Projects, you have demonstrated professional skills that you learned, with creativity and innovation, all well connected to situations in the real world. Students from the Information and Communications Technology programme use Computer Programs, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, and other technologies to solve important practical problems, such as a safety alert system for the deaf community in one of the projects. Students from the Multimedia Technology and Innovation programme showed their creativity and care for society too. For instance, one of the projects is an educational video game combatting internet fraud.

Now I am confident that you have become work-ready, a goal set by THEi for our graduates. But your journey has only just begun. In your future endeavors, I hope you will always uphold your core values, stay curious, explore bravely, keep your skills refined continuously, and be kind to others. And I wish you all success in your adventures to chase after your dreams, and make a difference to the world.

Time flies. I still vividly remember meeting you during the opening ceremony, when your eyes reflected a mix of anticipation and uncertainty about the future. It has been my honour to accompany you on this journey of growth. What has brought me even greater joy is witnessing your courage in overcoming countless challenges, step by step, leading to this significant milestone in your lives.

Today marks not just an end, but the beginning of a brand-new and important chapter. This is where your true journey begins. Whatever path you choose after graduation is not what matters most. Dear LA’s Graduating Class of 2025, 

Ten years can be both short and long in life, depends on one’s attitude. I don’t know if ten years ago you would’ve imagined yourself studying landscape architecture. I don’t know how you envision yourself ten years down the road.

As your teachers, we see your passion through the words, drawings, models, and videos you produce. Each of your stories speak of the challenges that you have overcome and the spectacular journeys that you have been through. To be able to wholeheartedly embrace the design process is probably one of the most important capability of a landscape designer. Keep in mind that design is an iterative process. Landscapes continue to evolve, and the design process never really ends. 

As your journey continue, we’d like to take this opportunity to celebrate this milestone together with you. May we wish you all the courage to bravely step into the next stages of your lives.

I am really glad to see your success in your Final Year Projects, despite all the challenges this year. As the Head of the Department of Digital Innovation and Technology, although I assumed the leadership of the programme only midway through this academic year, my connection to it runs deep. I have been with the programme since its inauguration in 2014, and the students of this programme have always been innovative, strong, and independent. This year, we see remarkable works which include immersive games and interactive installations, videos, and animations. They are results of your technical knowledge, skills, creativity, time management, passion, and care for society. You have every reason to be proud of yourself!

After years of teaching, I have come to realise that being a professor can sometimes feel like one of the most grieved jobs in the world, as we have witnessed your growth and transformation which often outpaces our own. When you first joined the BSc (Hons) in Surveying programme at THEi, many of you still relied heavily on others. Now, as you stand on the cusp of graduation, you are ready to embark on your next journey independently, launching your professional careers and turning the page to a new chapter in your lives.

Over the past few years, we have been delighted to see your progress – gaining a deeper understanding of the industry and your role in society. As you move forward, you may not all achieve success in a conventional sense, but we hope you will strive to pursue your aspirations and give your very best to lead meaningful lives. As I have shared with previous graduating cohorts, aim to be not only skilled professionals but also compassionate individuals and valued members of society.

As the Programme Leader of the Surveying programme, I look forward to seeing many of you become professional surveyors in the near future. Your generation faces a world that has changed dramatically compared to mine. To thrive, stay adaptable, curious and maintain the open, inquisitive mindset of a young child – qualities essential in this fast-evolving age. Looking back, you should be proud of completing your studies and reaching this significant milestone.
