This project aims to account the possibility of regenerating informal settlements into cultural landscape to boost the trend of cultural tourism and educate the younger generations to inherit the unique culture. Hence, addressing the cultural insignificance of the farming village around the sub-urban area of Hong Kong. As Hong Kong’s international status of trading, finances have been declining nowadays, it is high time for society to find a new way to gain back our international status. At the meantime, there are a lot of culture uniqueness in society regarding the historical changes through years. Rural village culture reflects the agriculture history of Hong Kong before it has become an international trading port. However, these villages are usually overlooked by society when the major voices are demanding more land for housing development. Besides, the original farmlands of the rural migrants have experienced a massive change to brownfield sites especially after the Court case: “ATTRONEY GENERAL V MELHADO INVESTMENT LTD” in 1983. The goal is to provide a solution on how informal settlements can be effectively incorporated within the context of Village Development and Residential (Group D) zoning, thereby contributing to preserve and inherit local culture by nurturing the youth and raising the cultural awareness of tourists and locals. In another word, a more inclusive and cultural sustainable sub-urban environment in Hong Kong.
