Hello, I am Walter Lam Chun Hung, a final-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Landscape Architecture at the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi). My design focus lies in sustainable urban development, blue-green infrastructure, and the integration of ecological restoration with public spaces. Through my graduation project, I am dedicated to exploring how nature-based solutions can revitalize rigid urban infrastructures, transforming them into resilient socio-ecological systems that harmoniously reconnect local communities with their natural water environments.
“Rewilding the Urban River” reimagines the 4-kilometer Tuen Mun River as a continuous socio-ecological corridor from Siu Hong to Castle Peak Bay. Addressing persistent hydrological degradation and social disconnection, this project proposes a holistic, nature-based revitalisation strategy. It features upstream constructed wetlands to filter rural pollution, a mid-reach urban water plaza to reconnect residents with the waterfront, and a formalised, accessible harbour edge for boating and recreation. Ultimately, the design transforms a concretised drainage channel into a vibrant blue-green infrastructure that harmonises flood safety, ecological recovery, and community well-being.
