"LOK Kwun Shing is a 3D Animator with a focus on narrative-driven visual storytelling. Comprehensive knowledge of the full 3D production pipeline is demonstrated, alongside proficiency in industry-standard software such as Maya, Arnold Renderer, and post-production tools including Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. Within his creative practice, emphasis is placed on abstract visual iconography and nuanced, character-driven emotional expression. A detail-oriented, proactive, and collaborative approach is consistently exhibited, with effectiveness in team-based environments clearly established. Particular interest is directed toward the integration of social critique within visually engaging and colourful animation narratives, through which authentic emotional experiences are conveyed and audiences are encouraged to reflect on meaningful themes. Continued development of expertise in expressive 3D animation is intended, with the pursuit of a professional career in digital animation and multimedia production being the primary objective."
The 2.5-minute 3D metaphorical animation, WAITING FOR A SEAT, centres on a young male fresh graduate navigating employment anxiety in Hong Kong. The setting of a late-night restaurant queue serves as a central metaphor for the saturated job market. Tables of varying sizes symbolise positions of different status and desirability, while unregulated street vendors represent risky and informal employment shortcuts.
As the protagonist observes other job seekers lowering their expectations and opting for smaller tables, he undergoes an internal transformation. Confronting self-doubt, he gradually relinquishes his fixation on “decent work” and adopts a more pragmatic outlook. Through a restrained and non-didactic narrative approach, the animation conveys a sense of warmth and hope, encouraging young individuals to alleviate career-related pressure and engage with the competitive labour market with a more positive and adaptive mindset.
